H.J. "Jim" Mellen, Jr. was named CEO of MDU Resources Group Inc. He will retain his current position as president. Mellen replaced John A. Schuchart, who will continue as chairman of the board.

Robert Anderson, Montana Public Service Commission member, was elected 104th president of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners. Edward H. Salmon, member of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, was elected first v.p. Bruce Ellsworth, member of the New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission, was elected second v.p.

PacifiCorp named John Mooney senior v.p. and head of retail sales and distribution operations. He was executive v.p. of PacifiCorp's Utah Power Division. Joining PacifiCorp's retail division as v.p. is Ed O'Mara, formerly in telecommunications. Diana Snowden has been named senior v.p. of Pacific Telecom Inc., a telecommunications subsidiary of PacifiCorp.

Minnesota Power named Donnie Crandell senior v.p., corporate development. David Gartzke was named senior v.p., finance, and CFO.

Southern California Edison named

C. Alex Miller and Bruce Foster v.p.'s. Miller continues as treasurer and Foster continues as head of the company's San Francisco region.

James H. Young, Jr. was named senior v.p. of business development for South Carolina Electric & Gas Co. Other changes include George J. Bullwinkel, Jr., senior v.p., retail electric; John L. Skolds, senior v.p., generation; and Gary J. Taylor, v.p., nuclear.

TNP Enterprises Inc. elected Manjit Cheema v.p. and CFO. He retains the title of treasurer. Douglas Hobbs was elected v.p./regional customer officer. Dennis Cash was elected v.p., human resources and communications. The changes resulted from a reorganization of Texas-New Mexico Power Co.

Deborah L. Burgess was promoted to assistant v.p., gas rates and fuels, at Madison Gas and Electric Co. Lynn K. Hobbie was promoted to assistant v.p., marketing.

Dan Packer was named Entergy Corp.'s v.p., regulatory and governmental affairs, for the City of New Orleans. He previously was general plant manager at the Waterford 3 nuclear station in Taft, LA.

Destec Energy Inc. elected Rick A. Bowen v.p. of business development for North America. Gareth J. Mann was elected v.p. of business development for Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

The New York Power Authority appointed Louise M. Morman senior v.p., marketing. She previously was g.m., strategic energy markets, at Delmarva Power in Wilmington, DE.

Atlanta Gas Light Co. reorganized into three functional areas and promoted Thomas H. Benson to executive v.p., customer operations. Charles W. Bass was promoted to executive v.p., market service and development. Robert L. Goocher, formerly CFO, was promoted to executive v.p., business support.

John Sommer joined Western Resources to direct its Kansas MidContinent natural gas market center. He previously was with Enron Gas Service.

Consolidated Natural Gas Co. named Dwight A. Howes a general attorney in its corporate law department. He previously was senior legislative counsel.

Energy West Inc. of Great Falls, MT, hired Edward J. Bernica as CFO. Bernica previously was employed by U S WEST.

Florida Gov. Lawton Chiles reappointed J. Terry Deason and Susan F. Clark to the Florida Public Service Commission. Deason was appointed in February 1991 and served two years as chairman. Clark
