Glenn P. Barba has been elected vice president and controller of Consumers Energy. He joined the utility in 2001 as controller. Previously, he served as controller for CMS Generation. Before joining CMS Generation in 1997, Barba spent nine years in public accounting, with a focus on the energy industry. Consumers Energy also named Kim D. Morris , a 20-year human resources veteran at the company, as human resources director for Consumers Energy's generating plants.

The law firm of Gallagher, Callahan & Gartrell announced that Lynmarie Cusack has joined the Concord, N.H.-based firm. Prior to the move, Cusack had most recently served as staff attorney and examiner with the New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission. Gallagher, Callahan & Gartrell is a multidisciplinary government and regulatory law firm serving New Hampshire and New England.

Natural Gas Partners announced that Philip B. Smith has joined the firm as a venture partner. Prior to joining the Irving, Texas-based NGP, Smith was chairman of the board and CEO of Prize Energy Corp., a portfolio company of NGP. NGP is a private equity investor in the oil and gas industry.

The board of directors of Puget Energy, the parent company of Puget Sound Energy, elected Eric M. Markell to a new position, vice president of corporate development of Puget Sound Energy. Markell has more than 20 years of experience in the utility and energy industry, having previously served as vice president and CFO of United American Energy Corp., and having held executive positions at Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp.

Questar Corp. announced a management transition in its Questar Market Resources (QMR) subsidiary, which conducts oil and gas exploration and production. Gary L. Nordloh will retire as president and CEO of QMR and its affiliates and from the Questar board of directors, effective Nov. 1. He will remain on the QMR board of directors. Charles B. Stanley will become president and CEO of QMR and its affiliates, and also will become the executive vice president of Questar Corp., effective Nov. 1.

Michael Armacost was appointed to the board of directors of USEC, Inc. Previously, Armacost had served as the president and trustee of the Brookings Institution until his recent retirement from that organization. He also had served twice as a U.S. ambassador, to the Philippines from 1982 to 1984, and to Japan from 1989 to 1993.

Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice announced that Walker Nolan joined the firm to head its Federal Government relations practice. Previously, Nolan was with Oldaker & Biden, where his practice focused on energy, environment, and regulatory issues.

Gregory L. Cauthen has been promoted to senior vice president, CFO, and treasurer of Transocean Inc. Previously, he served as vice president, CFO, and treasurer of the company. He joined the company in 2001 as vice president, finance, and treasurer
