New Positions:

Dynegy Inc. named Holli C. Nichols its senior vice president and corporate controller. Nichols joined Dynegy in 2000 after working for PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.

Southern Co. Executive Vice President Leonard J. Haynes was installed as chairman of the board and chief executive officer of the North American Energy Standards Board, succeeding Bill Boswell.

AES Corp. nominated Philip A. Odeen for election to the company's board of directors. Odeen retired as chairman of the TRW board last December.

W. Marie Zanavich was elected vice president of information technology and CIO of the United Illuminating Co. She previously was senior vice president of technology and CIO at United Water Resources.

Tom Rollow is the newly appointed director of the Office of Worker Advocacy at the Department of Energy (DOE), in charge of managing the DOE's implementation of the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act. Rollow has more than 27 years of experience with the federal government and U.S. Navy.

Platts appointed James C. Letzelter managing director of its Power practice for the company's Research & Consulting Group. Letzelter was most recently president of GenerSys Inc.

The board of directors at El Paso Corp. accelerated its search to replace CEO William A. Wise , appointing Ronald L. Keuhn Jr. as CEO and chairman, effective March 12. Wise had agreed to step down by year's end, but the board pushed ahead with the transition to, in its words, "provide strong leadership and stability while in search of a permanent CEO." El Paso also brought former Transocean Inc. CEO J. Michael Talbert to El Paso's board, appointed John Bissell lead director, and voted unanimously to add CONSOL Energy Inc. chairman John L. Whitmire to its board.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) appointed Ellis Merschoff CIO. Merschoff has been with the NRC since 1980, most recently as regional administrator in the group's Arlington, Texas, office.

Gale E. Klappa was elected president of Wisconsin Energy Corp. The company also named Richard R. Grigg , executive vice president at the company, CEO of its new electric generation group. Klappa previously served as CFO, treasurer, and executive vice president of Southern Co.

Benny W. Denham was elected to the Oglethorpe Power Corp. board of directors, and J. Sam L. Rabun was re-elected vice chairman. Denham, who represents the southwest Georgia region, succeeds J. Calvin Earwood , who retired after 14 years as chairman of the board.

Allen Bradley was appointed executive vice president and chief operating officer of Nashville Electric Service.

Resignations:

American Superconductor Corp. Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Stanley D. Piekos resigned from the company to pursue other interests.

Black Hills Corp. director Adil M. Ameer resigned his position. He was replaced by Steven J. Helmers , who will serve until the board finds a new permanent member.

Retirements:

National Grid USA Chairman William E. Davis , who served as Niagra Mohawk's chairman and CEO until the two companies merged last January, retired at the end of March.

Lloyd Meyers , vice president of power supply at Avista Utilities, will retire in June. Avista Utilities
