John Yurkanin was appointed senior v.p. of marketing and sales for LG&E Natural. Yurkanin joined LG&E in 1996 and served as senior v.p., producer services. Yurkanin will direct LG&E in expanding marketing presence with utilities and other marketers. Also at LG&E, Mark Stanger was appointed v.p., producer services. Stanger will direct service business, including contracting for new sources of gas supply and managing relationships with current suppliers.

Commissioner Hullihen Williams Moore will serve as chairman of the State Corporation Commission for the next year. Moore succeeds Theodore V. Morrison, Jr. in the annual rotation of the SCC's three commissioners.

UtiliCorp United named V.J. Horgan senior v.p. of power sales and marketing for its Aquila Energy subsidiary.

A. Karen Hill, formerly chief counsel of federal affairs and assistant corporate secretary at Niagara Mohawk Power Corp., was hired as staff v.p. and senior managing counsel for the American Gas Association.

Washington Gas promoted four employees to head various departments. Steve J. Shaiko will head the energy acquisiton department. Shaiko joined Washington Gas in 1977 and has held various postions in the gas supply and information systems departments. Adrian P. Chapman will head regulatory affairs. Chapman will be responsible for interaction with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and local regulatory authorities among other duties. George E. Chatska and Perry L. Wilcox, Jr., will head its sales and properties departments, respectively. Chatska's responsibilities will include establishing, monitoring and improving systems and policies to increase sales revenue. Wilcox will contribute to the formulation of strategic marketing and construction plans.

Lee T. Cornelison replaces Paul H. Vining as senior v.p. of Peabody COALSALES. Vining will become president of its subsidary Peabody COALTRADE Inc. Joining Vining will be Terry M. Hale as v.p. Hale was a v.p. at COALSALES, primarily responsible for international markets.

Atmos Energy Corp., hired Robert W. Best as chairman, president and CEO. Best joins Atmos from Consolidated Natural Gas Co., where he was senior v.p., regulated businesses.

TNP Enterprises Inc. promoted Doug Hobbs to v.p., business development. Hobbs will be responsible for identifying, evaluating and cultivating strategic business opportunities. Melissa Davis replaces Hobbs as v.p./regional customer officer and Scott Forbes replaces Davis as controller.

Former Sen. J. Bennett Johnston, of Louisiana was elected to the Columbia Gas Systems Inc. board of directors. Johnston is a former chairman of the senate committee on Energy and Natural Resources. Johnston is CEO of Johnston and Associates, a governmental and business consulting firm.

AMP Global Power promoted Nazario Proietto to president of its utilities business unit. Proietto will report directly to AMP's president and CEO, William J. Hudson. Among his responsibilities, Proietto will develop regional technology centers to further AMP in the global power generation and delivery market.

Steve Griffith, Duke Power vice chairman and general counsel, retired. Griffith joined the company in 1964 and has held various posts.

UtiliCorp United's Entrust Energy Solutions promoted Frank Costanza to president. Costanza was a UtiliCorp corporate development v.p. Jerry J. Saacks was named COO of Georgia System Operations Corp., one of two new companies created by Oglethorpe Power Corp.'s restructuring.

Cinergy Corp. hired L.C. Randolph, Jr. as v.p. of gas supply in its energy services business unit. Randolph had run his own consulting firm, ASM Energy Services Inc.
