Melinda Ackerman has been appointed senior vice president of human resources for American Electric Power. She succeeds Rodney B. Plimpton, who retired. Ackerman started with AEP in 1965 at Kentucky Power.
Allegheny Energy Inc. announced that Alan J. Noia, chairman of the board, president, and CEO, has been elected to serve on the EPRI board of directors for a four-year term. Noia has more than 35 years experience in the electric power industry, and was named CEO in 1996, and chairman of the board in 1997.
Anthony G. Schuster, retired vice president of transmission systems for Northern States Power-Wisconsin, has been named to head the interim, special-purpose organization which will manage the transition from the Alliance Regional Transmission Organization companies to the independent Alliance Transmission Company.
Anaheim Public Utilities announced that Mark Edward Mazak has been named to the position of assistant general manager-finance and administration. Mazak held a similar position since 1994 with the Turlock Irrigation District, a generation, transmission, and distribution utility district in California.
Howard Wenger was elected vice president, premium power business, for AstroPower. Wenger has served as AstroPower's director of on-grid business since 1998, and is known throughout the solar electric power industry as a pioneer in the distributed power generation business.
Badger Energy Services, LLC has named Paul Patterson as CEO and general manager. He came to Badger from People's Community Oil Cooperative, where he served as general manager.
David R. Lewis was promoted to vice president for finance for Calpine Corp. Previously, Lewis was regional director of finance for Calpine's Eastern Regional Office in Boston, MA. Lewis joined Calpine in 1997 as a senior financial analyst. Duke Energy announced two appointments in the company's corporate risk management group, and three appointments in the governmental affairs department. Michael W. Day was promoted to vice president, global fundamental analysis; and Dave Stephan joined the company as vice president of portfolio management and risk analytics. Donald E. Hatley was promoted to senior vice president, governmental affairs; Beverly K. Marshall became vice president, federal governmental affairs; and Joseph E. Harwood was promoted to vice president, state governmental affairs.
William A. Smith was appointed executive vice president of El Paso Corp. Previously, he was vice president of corporate development, after joining El Paso in 1999. El Paso also named the following people to their board of directors: Byron Allumbaugh, David A. Arledge, John M. Bissell, Juan Carlos Braniff, James F. Gibbons, Ph.D., Anthony W. Hall, Jr., Ronald L. Kuehn, Jr., J. Carleton "Sandy" MacNeil, Jr., Thomas R. McDade, Malcolm Wallop, William A. Wise, and Joe B. Wyatt. In other appointments, Basil Woller was elected as senior vice president and general auditor, and Judy Vandagriff was named senior vice president for tax. Woller joined the company in 1979, and Vandagriff joined El Paso after its merger with Tenneco Energy in 1996.
Florida Power has named Bruce M. Baldwin vice president of the combustion turbine operations department for Florida Power Corp. and CPL. Baldwin began his career with Florida Power in 1969.
