Don K. Davis has joined Carolina Power & Light as executive vice president of the gas and energy services unit. He also serves as president and CEO of North Carolina Natural Gas, CEO of Strategic Resource Solutions, and head of retail sales and services. Davis previously was chairman, president, and CEO of Yankee Atomic Power Co. and Connecticut Yankee Atomic Power Co. Calvin B. Wells, president and CEO of North Carolina Natural Gas, has retired after 26 years with the company.
The boards of GRI and the Institute of Gas Technology have elected John F. Riordan president and CEO of the new, merged organization. Riordan is the former CEO of MidCon corp. and vice chairman of KN Energy. The merged organization had not been named at press time.
Tom Upshaw, president and CEO of Palmetto Electric Cooperative Inc., has been named chair of the Touchstone Energy board. Upshaw has served the Touchstone Energy co-ops on the Budget and Finance Advisory Committee, Brand Steering Committee, the Executive Council, and the board of directors.
Carroll Hood has been appointed to the Mississippi Oil & Gas Board for a four-year term. Hood is president of Hood Petroleum Co. Inc., Copiah Oil Co. Inc., and HICO Inc. general insurance agency.
David H. McMillan has joined the Midwest Independent System Operator as director of market operations. McMillan was with Reliant Energy for 16 years, where he most recently was manager of transmission policy. John R. Catlin was named director of client relations at the ISO. He previously was manager of power system operations at Wabash Valley Power Association, where he served for the past 17 years.
Constellation Energy Group's chairman, president, and CEO, Christian H. Poindexter, received the William S. Lee Award for Industry Leadership at the Nuclear Energy Institute's annual conference in May. The award honors Poindexter's work in pioneering the first license renewal for a U.S. nuclear power plant. Poindexter also was elected chairman of NEI's board.
Joe H. Foy has retired from the board of Enron Corp. He had served on the board since 1985. Foy is former president of Houston Natural Gas Corp.
The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has named Thomas E. Noel its president and CEO. Sam R. Jones was named executive vice president and COO. Noel most recently was CEO of his own consulting firm. Jones, who joined ERCOT in 1996, has served as director.
Dynegy Inc. promoted J. Jolly Hayden to vice president of power delivery for Dynegy Marketing and Trade. Hayden formerly was the senior director of power transmission.
Rosalie Day has been named site manager for the Automated Power Exchange's new office in Houston. Day had been manager of regulatory policy for Reliant Energy since 1998.
The New York Mercantile Exchange in May honored Conoco chairman, president, and CEO, Archie Dunham, with its Directors' Award for Global Vision in Energy. The award recognized Dunham for his entrepreneurial leadership, promotion of competitive markets, and enhancement of his company's financial performance.
Mary Jo Price was named to the Electric Power Board, which directs operations of Nashville Electric Service. An attorney in state government for 15 years, Price also served as counsel to the Tennessee Board of Regents and the state Department of Labor.
Pinnacle West Capital Corp. has named Jack E. Davis its COO and executive vice president. Davis previously had served as president of delivery and sales for Arizona Public Service co., Pinnacle West's principal subsidiary. He retains that position, along with his new duties.
