Allete announced that Tim Thorp, director of investor relations, has been promoted to vice president of investor relations and corporate communications. Thorp joined the company in April 1978.

Chesapeake Utilities Corporation announced the appointment of three new members to its board of directors: Thomas J. Bresnan, CEO of New Horizons Worldwide Inc.; J. Peter Martin, retired founder, president, and CEO of Atlantic Utilities Corp.; and Joseph E. Moore Esq., a partner in the law firm of Williams, Hammond, Moore, Shockley and Harrison LLP. In addition, Ronald B. Bunnell has been named water accounting manager for the corporation's growing water treatment and conditioning business. Most recently, Bunnell was controller for WRS Infrastructure and Environment Inc. Bruce A. Chapman has been hired as general manager of EcoWater of Rochester. EcoWater is a water treatment facility of Chesapeake Utilities Corp.

Thomas W. Elward was elected president and CEO of CMS Energy's CMS Generation Co. He succeeds Rodney E. Boulanger, who retired. Elward has spent his entire career at CMS, joining the company in 1972. CMS also announced that Joseph P. Tomasik has been elected vice president and chief development officer. Previously, Tomasik was vice president of CMS Energy's regional development activities for Africa and the Middle East. He has spent his entire career with CMS, joining the company in 1979.

The Oregon Public Utility Commission announced the selection of John Savage as director of the commission's utility program. Savage has served as the director of the Oregon Office of Energy from 1994 to the present.

The New York Power Authority selected Sobeida Cruz as its Women Achiever of the Year for 2001 for her efforts in winning community support for 10 small, clean, gas-turbine generators that the NYPA installed throughout the city of New York to help ensure the reliability of the city's power supply. She was one of 100 women honored by their employers at the annual Salute to Women Achievers luncheon. The award recognizes women who have demonstrated leadership and served as positive examples in the workplace.

Ameren Corp. has named Martin J. Lyons controller of the corporation. Lyons joined Ameren in October 2001, after serving 13 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he was a partner in the audit and business advisory services group.

National Fuel Gas Company announced the election of Philip C. Ackerman to the position of chairman of the board. He joined the company in 1968, and has served as president since July 1999.

Roy McAllister has joined Mirant as senior vice president, external affairs. He also will serve as a member of Mirant's management council, and will be based in Atlanta. Most recently, McAllister was vice president, external affairs, for Cingular Wireless.

Kristine Euclide has joined Madison Gas and Electric as vice president and general counsel. Prior to this position, she was a senior partner with the Stafford Rosenbaum law firm.

Dr. Ahmad Faruqui has joined the Berkeley/Oakland offices of Charles River Associates. Prior to joining the firm, Faruqui was area manager for retail and power markets at EPRI.

Peace Software has appointed Patricia Moscarelli as vice president for development. She came to Peace from ChannelPoint, where she was senior vice president of product management and development.
