Aquila Power Corp., a UtiliCorp United subsidiary, has hired two executives to expand its market into the western United States. Timothy J. Culbertson, from Portland General Electric, will lead power marketing in the Pacific Northwest. David L. Metz will lead power marketing in the Southwest. Metz comes from Arizona Public Service Co.Consolidated Natural Gas Co. has named Bruce E. Plichta international financial analyst and James M. Mulcahy senior financial analyst. Plichta previously managed international investments for ABB Combustion Engineering; Mulcahy was v.p.-credit risk management at Bank of America-Illinois.

Allegheny Power has hired Michael A. Dandrea as marketing director. He was a General Electric regional manager. Thomas K. Henderson has been promoted to v.p. (legal) of Allegheny Power. He will continue as v.p. of the utility's three operating units.

Kenneth E. Welsh was promoted to marketing director at Equitable Gas, a division of Equitable Resources, Inc. Donald E. Vandenberg joined Equitable Resources Energy Co. as v.p.-engineering and operation. James L. Crist joined Equitable Resources, Inc. as marketing v.p.

Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Corp. has a new engineering v.p.: Jay Thayer, formerly operations v.p. at Yankee Atomic, will oversee plant engineering and corporate engineering support.

Lyndel J. Wishcamper has been elected to the board of Central Maine Power Co. He fills the vacancy left by former chairman Carlton D. Reed, Jr., who retired.

Robert J. Grey, v.p., general counsel, and secretary for Pennsylvania Power & Light, has been promoted to senior v.p., general counsel, and secretary.

ElectriCities of North Carolina, Inc. has two new board members, Stephen H. Slough and Steven K. Blanchard. Slough is director of electric systems, buildings, and grounds for the City of Concord; Blanchard is g.m. of Fayetteville's Public Works Commission.

Albert J. Smith III was promoted to superintendent-operations/maintenance for power facilities owned by Dover, DE. Duke/Fluor Daniel (for Duke Energy) and Louis Dreyfus Electric Power are the facilities operator.

The Elizabethtown Gas Co., an NUI Corp. division, has hired James W. Crowley, Jr. as v.p.-customer services. He comes from Brooklyn Union Gas Co.

Bill M. Thompson replaces retiree Arthur L. Johnson on the MCN Corp. board of directors. Thompson is a former chairman of GPM Gas Corp., a Phillips Petroleum Co. subsidiary.

Clifford J. Herbert, Jr. was promoted to v.p.-finance of EUA Service Corp. He retains his positions as treasurer and corporate secretary of Eastern Utilities Associates, EUA's parent.

United American Energy Corp. has hired a new v.p., Michael E. Higgins, formerly v.p. of Prudential Power Funding Associates.

Harry P. Salmon, Jr. has been promoted to v.p.-nuclear operations at the New York Power Authority. The Authority also announced three other changes: Leslie M. Jill, Jr. will become executive assistant to William J. Cahill, Jr., chief nuclear officer; Michael J. Colomb and Robert J. Barrett, operations g.m.'s, were promoted to plant managers.

NUI Corp. has hired Richard Gruber from ANGEX-American Natural Gas Exchange as marketing v.p.

John C. Checklick was promoted to customer service manager at Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp.

Gene Bissell rejoins AmeriGas Partners, L.P. after eight years with The BOC Group, Inc. He'll be v.p.-sales and operations for AmeriGas Propane.

Two executives will take early retirement and a third will take on more responsibilities at Central and South West Corp. Retiring are Harry D. Mattison, executive v.p., and Robert R. Carey, president/CEO of Central Power and Light Co. Glen Files, president/CEO of West Texas Utilities Co., will join Central and South West Corp.'s executive management.

Arthur P. Lennon, founder of Citizens Heat and Power Corp. of Boston - which later became EUA Cogenex Corp. - has resigned from EUA Cogenex. t
