CalEnergy Co. Inc. announced that J. Douglas Divine will serve as vice president of project development for CalEnergy Americas. Divine will be responsible for managing the business development activities throughout the Americas Region.
James M. Stephens was named president of Providence-Southern LLC. Prior to joining Providence-Southern, Stephens was assistant vice president of Reed Consulting Group. Stephens replaces Caroline K. Tortolani as president. Tortolani will remain a consultant to Providence-Southern.
Rhonda Gebicke will replace Norman Carter as manager of minority business development for Potomac Electric Power Co. Gebicke was promoted from supervisor, minority business development and Carter was promoted to manager of PEPCO's economic development.
Richard A. Bilas, former California State University at Bakersfield professor, was named president of the California Public Utilities Commission. Gov. Pete Wilson (R) selected Bilas to serve a six-year term on the commission. Fellow commission members elected Bilas president of the PUC.
Northeast Utilities announced Lisa Thibdaue will join the company as vice president-rates, regulatory affairs and compliance. Thibdaue comes to NU from Consumers Energy where she served as executive director, rates and regulatory affairs.
Stephen L. Baum, formerly president and CEO of Enova, was named chairman of Enova Corp. He will replace retiring chairman, Thomas A. Page. Donald E. Felsinger, formerly president and CEO of SDG&E and vice president of Enova, was promoted to president and CEO of Enova.
Kathryn D. Sullivan, Ph.D., former astronaut, and president and CEO of COSI Columbus, was nominated to the American Electric Power board of directors. Sullivan will stand for election by AEP shareholders at the annual meeting in April.
Gregory M. Lander, president of TransCapacity Limited Partnership, was re-elected to the Gas Industry Standards Board's board of directors. The GISB is a nonprofit organization created to construct and maintain standards for business practices and electronic communications in the natural gas industry.
Chairman and CEO of The United Illuminating Company, Richard J. Grossi, has officially told UI's Board of Directors that he would retire no later than the end of 1998. The board has established a search committee to find a successor.
