Richard D. Spencer, lately of General Electric Corp., has been hired by Equitable Resources, Inc. as v.p. and chief information officer. He was technology programs manager at GE.

Commonwealth Edison Co. has formed a new nuclear division management team. Thomas J. Maiman, senior v.p., is the top executive. He moves from the company's fossil division. Michael J. Wallace, another senior v.p., will market the utility on strategic nuclear business issues. Harold Keiser, chief nuclear operating officer, will handle day-to-day operations of ComEd's six nuclear plants.

Richard Drouin, former chair and CEO of Hydro-Québec, has joined the board of directors at American Superconductor Corp.

Stephen Morrissette has been promoted to strategic planning manager at Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Corp. Richard Neuman also has been promoted to field products manager.

Eastern Enterprises has created a new position, v.p. of business development, and hired Terry D. Ray to fill it. Ray comes from Equitable Resources, Inc., where he was strategic management director.

Joan S. Freilich and John F. Cioffi were promoted at Consolidated Edison, while Raymond J. McCann, CFO, ended a 40-year career with the company. Freilich becomes senior v.p. and CFO; Cioffi, v.p. and controller.

Thomas S. Richards, president and COO of Rochester Gas & Electric Corp., was elected to the board of directors. Also at RG&E, Nancy D. Hessler was hired as group manager for human resource services. She comes from Xerox Corp.

Madison Gas & Electric Co. promoted three executives: Thomas R. Krull is now v.p. of electric transmission and distribution; Lynn K. Hobbie, v.p. of marketing; and Peter J. Waldron, assistant v.p. of power supply operations/engineering.

Carl E. Meyer and Allan R. Page were promoted to v.p. at Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. Meyer will head

customer services; Page will head corporate services.

John T. Coughlin, former member of the Wisconsin Public Service Commission, has been hired to manage the group developing the Midwest independent system operator network. The network is being developed by 20 energy providers.

Cinergy Corp. has formed three business units. William J. Grealis will serve as president of energy services; Larry E. Thomas, president of energy delivery. Until a president for energy commodities is named, J. Wayne Leonard, group v.p. and CFO, will serve as acting president.

Detroit Edison's former manager for power generation, William R. Roller, is the company's new power generation v.p.

Charles H. Tenney II has vacated his seat as Bay State Gas chairman to Roger A. Young, formerly CEO. Tenney will continue to serve on the board of directors' executive committee. Young's post will be filled by Joel L. Singer, COO.

Destec Energy, Inc. has promoted Craig E. Hess to v.p. and controller, Ken E. Nash to v.p.-asset management, and Mark D. Voss to v.p.-operations and maintenance.
