Conectiv has made several executive promotions: Thomas Shaw , formerly executive vice president, was promoted to president and COO; Joseph Rigby and William Spence were promoted to senior vice presidents; Robert Gabbard was promoted to vice president and general manager of energy trading within Conectiv Energy.

John Mathis has been named vice president and associate general counsel, regulatory affairs, for Edison Mission Energy (EME), an Edison International company. Before joining EME, Mathis was a senior partner in the energy group of Hogan and Hartson LLP. EME also has promoted Sam Henry to vice president of risk management. Previously, Henry headed the company's power marketing, fuels, and emissions trading department in the United States since joining EME in 1998.

Mark Schwirtz has been named COO for Arizona Electric Power Cooperative (AEPCO) and its Apache Generating Station. Schwirtz joined AEPCO in 1991 as environmental affairs manager.

Steve Philley has been appointed CEO of TXU Australia. Philley had been vice president of energy supply for TXU Electric & Gas. He replaces Bob Shapard , who recently resigned to take a position as executive vice president with Ultramar Diamond Shamrock Corp. V.J. Horgan has joined the company as president of TXU Energy Trading. She had been president of Aquila Merchant Energy Partners. Robert G. McCoy was named president of TXU Energy Services. McCoy came from GTE and has 30 years of experience in the telecommunications industry.

Dominion Energy has named retired Adm. Jay L. Johnson its senior vice president. Johnson served as Chief of Naval Operations and as a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1996 until his retirement in July.

Charles E. Gooley , president and CEO of Yankee Energy System (YES), succumbed to cancer in September. Gooley joined Yankee as vice president and general counsel when it was created through a spin-off of Northeast Utilities in 1989. Michael G. Morris , chairman, president, and CEO of Northeast Utilities and chairman of YES, has been elected president and CEO of YES to succeed Gooley. Dennis E. Welch , formerly vice president of environmental safety and ethics for Northeast Utilities, was elected senior vice president, COO, and director of YES and its subsidiaries.

Oglethorpe Power Corp. has appointed Anne F. Appleby vice president of finance. She served as senior vice president, credit products, for Bank of America before joining Oglethorpe.

Kellie Byerly has been hired as vice president, operations, for Calpine Corp.'s central region. Fred Manuel has been named senior vice president, gas operations. In addition, Dennis Gilles has been promoted to vice president, geothermal operations. Tom Box and Karl Urbank were promoted to vice president, geothermal resource management, and vice president, technical services, respectively.

Great Lakes Gas Transmission Co. has appointed Greg A. Lohnes president and CEO. He replaces Michael Durnin , who retired. He comes to Great Lakes from TransCanada PipeLines Ltd., where he was vice president, global energy and business development, for the international business unit.

Jeffrey R. Webb has been named director of planning at the Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator. Previously, Webb was manager of transmission planning at Commonwealth
