New Opportunities: PPL Corp. selected William H. Spence , currently the company’s executive v.p. and COO, as president. Spence replaces James H. Miller, PPL’s president since 2005. Miller will continue to serve as chairman and chief executive officer.
Pacific Gas & Electric hired Anthony Earley Jr. as its new CEO. Earley was chairman of DTE Energy. He succeeds Peter Darbee, who resigned in April.
Southern Company selected Kenneth E. Coleman as senior v.p. and CIO, succeeding Becky Blalock. Previously, Coleman was v.p. of Alabama Power’s southern division.
FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC) named Roy Brosi director of strategic industry initiatives. Brosi most recently served as director of performance improvement at FENOC’s Beaver Valley Nuclear Power Station.
FirstEnergy Solutions named new sales and marketing executives: Julie Hextell will become senior v.p. of sales and marketing, succeeding Arthur Yuan, who plans to retire in 2013. In addition, David Hennekes was named v.p. of marketing. Hextell was COO of SoCore Energy, and Hennekes was v.p. and general manager for the residential division at TXU Energy.
Pres. Barack Obama appointed Hawaiian Electric Industries (HEI) President and CEO Constance Lau to serve as a member of the National Infrastructure Advisory Council (NIAC).
National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative named Tim Bryan as CEO. Recently, Bryan was CEO of ICO Global Communications, a next-generation satellite company.
Southern Company subsidiary SouthernLINC Wireless appointed as president and CEO Don Horsley , current v.p. of customer services of Mississippi Power. Horsley replaces Bob Dawson, who will retire effective October 1.
USEC Inc. appointed Marian K. Davis as v.p. and chief audit executive. She most recently served as senior v.p., corporate internal audit, for Sunrise Senior Living Inc.
Corporate Risk Solutions (CRS) named Joe Doetzl as senior manager of consulting services. Doetzl joins CRS from Kansas City Power & Light , where he served as the manager of information security and compliance.
Nebraska Public Power District appointed as v.p. Ken Curry to lead the utility’s customer service division. Curry served as project manager for the utility’s strategic planning process.
Boards of Directors: Great Plains Energy appointed Terry Bassham to its board. Bassham, who is president and COO of both Great Plains Energy and Kansas City Power & Light, assumes the board seat of former President, COO and board member Bill Downey.
Two new members have been elected to the board of directors of American Transmission Co. , Patricia Kampling and Alan Schriber . Kampling is president and COO of Alliant Energy. Schriber was chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio , and is a former college professor and broadcasting executive.
Richard Howorth was elected to serve a five-year term on the TVA board of directors. Howorth was confirmed unanimously by the U.S. Senate taking the seat of former board member Howard Thrailkill whose term expired in May 2010.
