New Opportunities: American Electric Power’s board of directors elected Nicholas K. Akins CEO. Akins, who will retain the position of president, succeeds Michael G. Morris who retires as CEO. Akins was also elected to AEP’s board of directors.

Dynegy appointed Catherine B. Callaway executive v.p. and general counsel. Callaway will serve on Dynegy’s executive management team and report to Robert C. Flexon. Since August 2011, Callaway served as general counsel for NRG Gulf Coast and Reliant Energy.

Iberdrola USA appointed Carl Taylor as v.p., customer service and Jeff Ballard as v.p., operations technologies and business transformation. Most recently, Taylor was the v.p. of business transformation at Iberdrola, and before that was president and CEO of Iberdrola subsidiary The Energy Network Inc. Most recently, Ballard led the Iberdrola USA IT organization as v.p. of information technology.

Calpine named W. Bryan Kimzey vice president of investor relations.  He succeeds Andre Walker , who became vice president, asset management earlier this year. Kimzey previously worked at Progress Energy in investor relations, treasury, and strategic planning, and was a vice president at  CS First Boston before that.

Alternate Energy Holdings hired  J. Peter Honeysett as director of nuclear projects, a newly-created position focused on directing the Payette, Idaho, nuclear project. Previously,  Honeysett spent his career with Florida Power & Light working in operations at the St. Lucie nuclear power plant  in Florida.

GDF SUEZ Energy Resources NA named Karthik Rajan regional v.p. of sales in the ERCOT service area. Prior to joining GDF SUEZ, Rajan worked in the agro-chemical industry in both the United States and India.

Michigan Governor Rick Snyder appointed John D. Quackenbush to serve as chair of the Michigan Public Service Commission . Quackenbush worked for UBS Global Asset Management for 10 years, most recently as a managing director and senior investment analyst. Quackenbush will serve a six-year term expiring July 2, 2017, and replaces Monica Martinez.

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) elected Edward Randolph as its new energy division director. Randolph served as the CPUC’s director of governmental affairs and senior policy advisor since March 10, 2010.

The American Gas Association (AGA) elected Lawrence T. Borgard , Integrys Energy Group president and COO, utilities, to serve as chairman  of the board of directors for 2012. Borgard serves as CEO of each of Integrys’ six electric and natural gas utilities.

Interstate Natural Gas Association of America named Gregory L. Ebel , president and CEO of Spectra Energy, as chairman of the INGAA board of directors for 2012. INGAA also selected Greg Harper , senior v.p.  and group president of CenterPoint Energy & Field Services , as first vice chair, and Gary L. Sypolt , CEO of Dominion Energy , as second  vice chair.

 

Boards of Directors: Sue­deen G. Kelly was elected to serve on Tendril’s board of directors. Kelly is a former FERC commissioner and a partner at Patton Boggs
