PUF: What's it like to be a Commissioner in Hawaii where there is so much going on?

Commissioner Potter: It's exciting. I am challenged every day that I come to work and that I'm presented with ideas from our team and the other Commissioners that do challenge the way I think.

That challenge that you experience when you come to work is what keeps us moving and keeps us motivated. We're doing some cutting-edge work here and it's absolutely an honor to be part of those game changers in the regulatory arena.

PUF: What was your role before you came to the Commission?

Commissioner Potter: I've worked most recently at Hawaii Natural Energy Institute and I worked on some data analytics, locational values for the electric grid based on demand side usage.

Prior to that I was with Lawrence Berkeley National Lab on the Demand Response Potential Study for the state of California. We were contracted by the California Public Utilities Commission and that's where I got my first experience of working with the Commission because prior to that I worked for the Sacramento Municipal Utility District.
