We interviewed nine of the leaders at Hawaiian Electric including Rebecca Dayhuff Matsushima, director for renewable acquisition at Hawaiian Electric.

PUF: What is your role here, and what led you to this job?

Rebecca Dayhuff Matsushima: I've been at the company since 2012. I'm an attorney by education, and I have my MBA. I worked at a law firm in Hawaii, and I started doing work for Hawaiian Electric, including negotiating power purchase agreements with developers.

Then a position opened up in-house in the legal department at Hawaiian Electric. I moved over in 2012. Most of my work was supporting the Renewable Acquisition Division. When the past director of the division was promoted, I came over in 2017 to lead that effort.

PUF: That's the center crux of this huge push to a hundred percent renewables by 2045, because Hawaiian Electric isn't going to do that alone.
