The Edison Electric Institute annual convention featured many big names, Bill Gates, Elon Musk, and Deion Sanders to name a few. Though for the nearly thousand attendees, the premier session of the convention was the CEO Roundtable. Moderated by Duke Energy CEO Lynn Good, the panel included Ameren Executive Chair Warner Baxter, Edison International CEO Pedro Pizarro, and Portland General Electric CEO Maria Pope. Baxter was finishing up his term as EEI's Chair and handing off the reins to Pizarro. Pope takes on the role for the next twelve months as EEI Vice Chair.

“We as an industry have, I think, a strong history of providing reliable, affordable, and now increasingly clean service to our customers. It starts and ends there.

The investor-owned utility model has brought a great benefit to our communities in allowing us to use the outside market, outside investors, to attract capital so that our communities don't have to put up the capital themselves. Today, seventy percent of the country's load is served by the industry's utilities. Collectively, we've been able to build the scale and the skills to serve our communities well...
