Illinois Commerce Commission Accepts ComEd AMI Plan

The Illinois Commerce Commission accepted an annual report filed by Commonwealth Edison Company (ComEd) documenting its efforts to implement its advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) plan, including steps taken by the utility to educate customers on the upcoming deployment of the smart meters. Earlier in June, the commission had approved a revised schedule for installation of 60,000 new meters in ComEd’s service area beginning in the third quarter of 2013. Although ComEd originally had announced that it intended to delay deployment of smart meters until January 2015 for financial reasons, the commission found the delay would violate statutory provisions requiring the company to begin installing the meters sooner. As a result, an additional 160,000 meters will be installed in 2014. (Case No.13-0285, Ill.C.C.). For more analysis, subscribe to URN. http://www.fortnightly.com/utility-regulatory-news-0
