Amerifreight Picks Sunvalley Solar

Amerifreight in City of Industry, awarded a new 129.5KW solar system installation contract to Sunvalley Solar. The system will use 518 polycrystalline solar panels, 250 Watts each. Installation is expected to begin by the middle of 2013.

SDG&E Signs Five Solar and Wind PPAs

San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) signed five new renewable power purchase agreements for a total of nearly 62 MW of solar and wind energy. Two of these contracts, for a total of 27 MW, will be located in San Diego County.

ReneSola Signs 44 MW Solar Module Agreement with Enerparc

ReneSola Ltd agreed to provide Enerparc AG with 43.6 MW of solar modules, 35 MW of which will be delivered through original equipment manufacturers (OEM) in Poland and India. Under the terms of the agreement, ReneSola and its contracted OEMs will deliver 43.6 MW of solar modules to Enerparc between April and June of this year.

SunEdison, Petrobras to Build PV Project in Brazil

SunEdison signed an agreement with Petrobras to build one of the largest photovoltaic (PV) power plants in Brazil. The plant will be located in Alto do Rodrigues, Rio Grande do Norte. Once completed, SunEdison will manage the plant from its central operations center. The energy generated will be fed into Brazil’s National Interconnected System. The plant will have an installed capacity of 1.1 MW DC and will be built on land adjacent to the Thermoeletric Plant Jesus Soares Pereira that belongs to Termoacu S.A.

Elster Selected for Texas Multi-Utility Project

The City of Georgetown, Texas, chose Elster’s EnergyAxis for its system-wide, multi-utility meter replacement project. Georgetown will deploy Elster's EnergyAxis solution throughout its service territory and install 21,000 each of Elster’s water and electricity meters.

Dynegy to Acquire Ameren Energy Resources

Dynegy subsidiary Illinois Power Holdings agreed to acquire Ameren Energy Resources and its subsidiaries Ameren Energy Generating, AmerenEnergy Resources Generating, and Ameren Energy Marketing. Upon closing, Dynegy will own more than 8,000 MW of generating capacity in Illinois, and nearly 14,000 MW nationally. The AER retail and marketing businesses and the following plants are included in the transaction: Duck Creek, Coffeen, E.D. Edwards, Newton, and Joppa. The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2013.

Georgia Power Pours Concrete for New Vogtle Reactor

Georgia Power completed placing basemat structural concrete for the nuclear island at its Vogtle Unit 3 nuclear project. The utility is building two new reactors at the Plant Vogtle site near Waynesboro, Ga. The full outlines of both nuclear islands have been completed to grade level. The first components for erecting the Unit 3 containment vessel are completed and staged for installation once the basemat concrete has cured, including the Unit 3 containment vessel bottom head.

NSTAR Starts Up Customer EV Hotline

NSTAR established a new hotline to provide customers with a source of information about electric vehicles and EV technology.

Georgia Power Upgrades Transmission Lines

Georgia Power, a subsidiary of Southern Company, chose 3M’s ACCR overhead conductor to double transmission capacity on a set of lines that cross wetlands near Savannah, Ga. The upgrade is on a 16.7-mile line linking the Kraft generating plant in Savannah with the McIntosh plant north of the city.

South Carolina Munis Select Tantalus for Smart Grid

Piedmont Municipal Power Agency (PMPA) selected Tantalus to provide the communications network for its smart grid system. PMPA is a joint agency formed by 10 municipal utilities in northwestern South Carolina.
