Pennsylvania Expands Access to Customer Account Data

Responding to suggestions from its Office of Competitive Market Oversight (OCMO), the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission issued a tentative order seeking comments to guide its development of procedures needed for giving competitive electric generation suppliers quicker access to the customer account numbers of regulated utilities. The OCMO had submitted a proposal for providing alternative energy suppliers with account numbers for newly enrolled customers in those instances where the account number isn’t readily available from either the customer or from an established utility-managed customer list. The commission said that enhanced access is necessary to afford competitive suppliers an opportunity to promote their offers in public locations and community events, such as shopping malls and trade shows.
