Duke Energy Renewables Acquires 20-MW Shawboro Solar Project from Ecoplexus

Duke Energy Renewables acquired a 20-MW solar power project in Shawboro, N.C., from Ecoplexus Inc., lead developer of the project. The energy generated from the facility is enough to power about 4,000 homes and will be sold to Dominion NC Power through a 15-year agreement. Swinerton Renewable Energy will build the facility. The project is targeted for completion by year-end.

Duke Energy Acquires Halifax Solar Project in Eastern North Carolina

Duke Energy Renewables (Duke) acquired the Halifax Solar Power Project, a 20-MW solar project in Roanoke Rapids, N.C., from Geenex and ET Solar Energy Corp. Duke will own and operate the site. The project is located in Dominion North Carolina Power's service territory, and the energy generated from the solar site will be sold through a 15-year agreement with the utility. The system employs 866 AE 3TL string inverters of 23.2KW AC capacity each and has about 100,000 ET Solar and Chint solar modules.

Duke Energy to Build Los Vientos V Wind Project in Texas

Duke Energy Renewables will build, own and operate a 110-MW wind power project, Los Vientos V, in Starr County, Texas. Garland Power & Light, Greenville Electric Utility System and Bryan Texas Utilities (BTU) have signed 25-year PPAs produced by the project. Vestas will supply 55 2-MW turbines for the project. The project is expected to be completed in late 2015.

Duke Energy Renewables Acquires Two Solar Projects From Infigen Energy

Duke Energy Renewables acquired two 20-MW AC California solar projects from renewable energy developer Infigen Energy. The Pumpjack and Wildwood Solar Power Projects, located in Kern County near Bakersfield, represent Duke Energy Renewables' third and fourth utility-scale solar power projects in the state. The solar energy generated from the two projects will be sold through 20-year PPA with Southern California Edison.

Duke Energy to Build Three Solar Projects in Eastern North Carolina

Duke Energy Renewables began construction on three utility-scale solar power projects totaling 30 MW in Eastern North Carolina. The 20-MW Dogwood Solar Power Project is located in Halifax County, near Scotland Neck. The company is also building two 5-MW projects, one in Bertie County near Windsor, named Windsor Cooper Hill Solar. The other, Bethel Price Solar, is in Pitt County, near Bethel. Power from these projects will be sold through long-term, fixed price contracts.

Duke Energy Expands Washington White Post Solar Power Project

Duke Energy Renewables began construction on a 5-MW utility-scale solar power project in Beaufort County, N.C., adjacent to its 12.5-MW Washington White Post facility. As in the initial project, the solar energy generated from the Washington White Post II site will be sold through a 15-year agreement to North Carolina Eastern Municipal Power Agency (NCEMPA). Duke Energy Renewables has contracted with SunEnergy1 to build the 27,450-panel photovoltaic project. It should be complete by the end of 2013.

Duke Energy Renewables, Integrys Solar, Canadian Solar and Community Energy Complete Solar Project in Massachusetts

Duke Energy Renewables, Integrys Solar, Canadian Solar, and Community Energy Solar completed a 3-MW solar power project in Berkley, Mass. The Berkley East Solar Power Project is co-owned by Canadian Solar and INDU Solar Holdings – a joint venture between subsidiaries of Duke Energy and of Integrys Energy Services. Taunton Municipal Lighting Plant will purchase the power generated from the project under a 25-year agreement.

Duke Energy Buys Recurrent’s Solar Project in San Francisco

Duke Energy Renewables acquired the 4.5-MW Sunset Reservoir Solar Power Project, the largest solar generation facility in San Francisco, from Recurrent Energy. The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) will purchase the energy under a 25-year PPA. The facility provides electricity for the city and county of San Francisco's municipal services and facilities. 

Duke Energy Renewables completes Notrees Battery Storage Project

Duke Energy Renewables, part of Duke Energy's Commercial Businesses, completed its 36-MW energy storage and power management system at its Notrees Windpower Project in west Texas. The system completed testing and became fully operational in December 2012. Xtreme Power designed and installed the 36-MW capacity Dynamic Power Resource at Notrees and will continue to operate the system. In addition to increasing the supply of renewable energy during periods of peak demand, the system will help stabilize the frequency of electricity traveling throughout the power grid.
