Exelon Generation Breaks Ground On 1,000 MW Natural Gas Power Generating Unit

Senior executives from Exelon Generation, Alstom, General Electric and Zachry officially broke ground on the construction of a new low-carbon, combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) at Exelon's Colorado Bend Generating Station in Wharton. The new CCGT will provide an additional 1,000 MW to the existing 498-MW natural gas power plant. The new unit at Colorado Bend is one of two new CCGTs the company is developing in Texas.

Exelon Generation to Develop 195 MW of New Electric Capacity in Medway, MA

Exelon Generation will add 195 MW of electric generation capacity to help meet future energy needs in New England. Two new generation units will be built as an expansion to Exelon's existing generating facility in Medway, MA. The units will operate primarily during times of peak energy demand. Both units will run mainly on natural gas, but will have the ability to run on ultra-low-sulfur distillate fuel oil as a backup, ensuring fuel diversity and reliability.

CENG's Five Reactors Officially Join Exelon's Nuclear Fleet

Three nuclear energy plants owned by Constellation Energy Nuclear Group (CENG) officially joined Exelon Generation's fleet of nuclear plants. The three CENG plants include five reactors capable of generating more than 4,200 MW at full power, they include: R.E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant in Ontario, NY, a single 583-MW, Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station in Scriba, NY, 1,937 MW, Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant in Lusby, Md., 1,768 MW.
