FuelCell Energy Completes Sale of University Micro-grid Project to NRG Yield

FuelCell Energy reported the closing of its definitive agreement to sell a 1.4-MW fuel cell power plant project at the University of Bridgeport to NRG Energy. Concurrent with the closing, a subsidiary of NRG, NRG Yield, acquired the project; the first-ever fuel cell project placed into any yieldco. The University of Bridgeport will buy the electricity and heat produced by the fuel cell power plant under a multi-year PPA.

Microsoft Taps Siemens as to Engineer Power Monitoring Solution for First Zero-Carbon Biogas Data Center

Siemens Energy Management partnered with Microsoft and FuelCell Energy to design, engineer and install equipment and software, including a power monitoring solution, for the nation's first zero-carbon, waste-to-energy data center in Cheyenne, WY. The project uses biogas methane produced by common waste byproducts at the nearby Dry Creek wastewater facility to power the fuel cell system. The fuel cell system then converts the biogas into electricity to power the Microsoft datacenter.

Embracing Disruption

Developing a leadership role for utilities in alternative technologies.

Faced with aging assets, rising operating costs, growing regulatory risks, and flat demand growth, utilities are challenged to remain competitive in an evolving energy market. The answer might be for utilities to establish a leadership position and pursue a more flexible mission.

Dominion Breaks Ground at Largest Fuel Cell Power Project in North America

Dominion and FuelCell Energy broke ground on the largest fuel cell power project in North America. Dominion Bridgeport Fuel Cell will produce 14.9 MW of clean energy using an electro-chemical process that converts natural gas into electricity. Dominion Bridgeport Fuel Cell is part of Project 150, a program sponsored by the state and supported by the Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority (CEFIA) to increase renewable and clean energy projects in Connecticut by 150 MW.
