SunEdison and Dominion Partner for 420-MW Solar Project in Utah

SunEdison signed a definitive agreement with Dominion, establishing a joint venture for Four Brothers, a 420-MW DC, or 320-MW  AC, solar project in Utah, developed by SunEdison. The project is now under construction and fully financed with an expected commercial operation date of mid-2016. The Four Brothers project is contracted under long-term PPAs for 20 years with PacifiCorp.

Abengoa and Starwood Energy Win a 114-mile Transmission Line in the Southwest, US

Abengoa and Starwood Energy’s joint venture was selected by the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) as the approved sponsor to finance, construct, own, operate and maintain the Delaney to Colorado River 500-kV transmission line project. Abengoa and Starwood Energy will undertake joint development of the 114-mile transmission line, reinforcing the electrical interconnection between both California and Arizona. Abengoa will undertake construction, operation and maintenance of the transmission line.

Panda Power Funds to Jointly Develop 1,000 MW Pennsylvania Power Project

Panda Power Funds entered into a joint venture with Sunbury Generation LP to develop, finance, construct and operate a 1,000-MW natural gas-fueled, combined-cycle power project near Shamokin Dam in Snyder County, Pennsylvania. The 30 acre Panda Hummel Station” power facility will occupy part of the 192 acre Keystone Opportunity Expansion Zone at the site of the recently retired Sunbury coal-fired power plant. The plant is expected to enter commercial operation in the second half of 2017.

SunEdison and Renova Energia Create Joint Venture to Develop 1 GW of Utility Scale Solar in Brazil

SunEdison and Renova Energia S.A. created an exclusive joint venture to develop, own, and operate 1 GW of utility scale solar PV energy to supply the Brazilian Regulated Electricity Market. Renova and SunEdison will each own a 50% stake in the joint venture. The joint venture plans to build and operate four utility scale solar power plants in Bahia State, Brazil, by 2017; installing 106.9 MW of solar as part of contracts awarded by the Brazilian Energy Commercialization Authority, Camara Comercializadora de Energia Electrica (CCEE).

Pattern Development Signs Agreement to Develop Largest First Nation Wind Project in Canada

Pattern Energy Group (Pattern Development) entered into a joint venture partnership with Henvey Inlet First Nation to jointly develop, own and operate the 300-MW Henvey Inlet Wind project to be built in Parry Sound District, Ontario. Pattern Development will own a 50% joint venture interest in the 300-MW project, which has a 20-year PPA with the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) for 100% of its expected production.

Hydro-Quebec and Sony Form Joint Venture for Large-Scale Energy Storage Systems

Hydro-Québec and Sony Corporation (Sony) established a joint venture to research and develop a large-scale energy storage system for power grids. The new company will utilize Hydro-Québec's operation and control technologies for electric power supplies as well as its lithium-ion battery material technology, together with Sony's control technologies for reliable, olivine-type lithium-ion iron phosphate rechargeable batteries and highly scalable module systems. 

Siemens and Accenture Form Smart Grid Joint Venture

Siemens and Accenture formed Omnetric Group, a joint venture in the smart grid field to develop solutions and services that allow utilities to improve efficiency and achieve greater supply security. Its business operations will focus initially on Europe and the U.S., with further global expansion planned in the future. Omnetric Group will focus on solutions and services for system integration and management of the growing volume of data created as part of power grid operation.
