H.J. "Jim" Mellen, Jr. was named CEO of MDU Resources Group Inc. He will retain his current position as president. Mellen replaced John A. Schuchart, who will continue as chairman of the board.

Robert Anderson, Montana Public Service Commission member, was elected 104th president of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners. Edward H. Salmon, member of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, was elected first v.p. Bruce Ellsworth, member of the New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission, was elected second v.p.

PacifiCorp named John Mooney senior v.p. and head of retail sales and distribution operations. He was executive v.p. of PacifiCorp's Utah Power Division. Joining PacifiCorp's retail division as v.p. is Ed O'Mara, formerly in telecommunications. Diana Snowden has been named senior v.p. of Pacific Telecom Inc., a telecommunications subsidiary of PacifiCorp.

Minnesota Power named Donnie Crandell senior v.p., corporate development. David Gartzke was named senior v.p., finance, and CFO.

Southern California Edison named

C. Alex Miller and Bruce Foster v.p.'s. Miller continues as treasurer and Foster continues as head of the company's San Francisco region.

James H. Young, Jr. was named senior v.p. of business development for South Carolina Electric & Gas Co. Other changes include George J. Bullwinkel, Jr., senior v.p., retail electric; John L. Skolds, senior v.p., generation; and Gary J. Taylor, v.p., nuclear.
