The Association of Edison Illuminating Cos. (AEIC) elected new officers. Thomas Shockley III, vice chairman and chief operating officer of American Electric Power, was elected president of AEIC. Elected as first vice president was Peter Burg, chairman and CEO of FirstEnergy. Richard Grigg, president and COO of We Energies, was elected second vice president.
Robert Shapard was hired as Exelon Corp.'s new CFO. He replaces Ruth Ann Gillis, who was promoted last spring to president of the company's business services division. Gillis had been with ComEd since before the merger of its parent, Unicom Corp., with PECO Energy, which formed Exelon. Shapard was formerly CFO with Covanta.
The American Gas Association elected Richard Reiten, the current chairman and CEO of NW Natural, to serve as chairman of the American Gas Association's board of directors for 2003. AGA's other officers for 2003 are: first vice chair, Robert Best, chairman, president, and CEO, Atmos Energy Corp.; and immediate past chair William Michael Warren, Jr., chairman, president and CEO of Energen Corp. AGA also conferred two Distinguished Service Awards, the association's highest honor. David W. Biegler, former vice chairman and president of TXU Corp., was recognized. Also honored, posthumously, was Cuba Wadlington, Jr., the former president and CEO of Williams' gas pipeline division and executive vice president of Williams.
