New Opportunities: Dynegy appointed Robert C. Flexon , currently a Dynegy independent director, as president and CEO. Flexon will replace E. Hunter Harrison , who has served as interim president and CEO since April 2011. Harrison will be resuming his role as an independent director and will serve as non-executive chairman of Dynegy’s board of directors.

Dynegy also named three former NRG executives to positions in corporate management. Carolyn J. Burke became executive vice president and chief administrative officer; she was global controller for J.P. Morgan’s global commodities business, and an executive with NRG before that. Kevin T. Howell , who retired last year as president of NRG Texas and president of Reliant Energy, became Dynegy’s executive vice president and chief operating officer. Clint C. Freeland , formerly an NRG senior vice president and CFO, became Dynegy’s executive vice president and CFO.

Sempra Energy named Debra L. Reed as CEO of the company and a new member of the company’s board. Reed has been executive v.p. of Sempra Energy since April 2010. Previously, she was president and CEO of San Diego Gas & Electric and Southern California Gas.

Southern Company elected Stephen Kuczynski chairman, president and CEO of the company’s Southern Nuclear subsidiary. Kuczynski comes to Southern from Exelon where he was senior v.p., engineering and technical services, for Exelon Nuclear.

The California Independent System Operator named Steve Berberich as the organization’s new president and CEO. He succeeds Yakout Mansour who etired. Berberich has served as the ISO’s COO since 2010.

Constellation Energy Nuclear Group (CENG) made leadership changes at its R.E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant located in Ontario, N.Y., including Joe Pacher as site v.p. and Sonny Dean as plant general manager (PGM).

FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Co. (FENOC) named Eric A. Larson v.p., nuclear support. Larson joins FENOC from Constellation Energy, where he was plant general manager at the Calvert Cliffs and R.E. Ginna nuclear power plants.

American Electric Power named Lisa Barton executive v.p., AEP transmission, effective August 1. Barton currently is AEP’s senior v.p., transmission strategy and business development.

Charles “Chuck” O. Hinson , TECO Energy’s v.p. of federal & state governmental affairs, was named v.p. of state and community relations for Tampa Electric and Peoples Gas .

Pace Global Energy Services named Tim Heinle as v.p. in the renewable energy development group. Heinle has more than 16 years of experience in the energy sector and previously worked at Duke Energy, Magellan Resources Group, and Community Resources.

America’s Natural Gas Alliance (ANGA) named Amy Farrell as v.p. of regulatory affairs. Farrell joins ANGA from Exxon Mobil Corp., where she advised senior executives on a range of policy issues.

Mid Atlantic Conference of Regulatory Utilities Commissioners (MACRUC) elected Betty Ann Kane as president. Currently Kane serves as chairman of the Public Service Commission of the District of Columbia.

Jay Morrison was promoted to v.p. of regulatory issues for National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA). Most recently, Morrison served as NRECA’s senior regulatory counsel.
