Southern Company Subsidiary Acquires First Solar Project in Texas

Southern Company subsidiary Southern Power acquired a controlling interest in the 157- MW Roserock solar facility from Recurrent Energy. The facility is being developed by Recurrent Energy, a subsidiary of Canadian Solar, which will retain the remaining interest in the project. The project, currently under construction, is expected to enter commercial operation in the fourth quarter of 2016.

Recurrent Energy Awarded 150 MW Utility-Scale Solar Contract by Austin Energy for Texas Solar Projects

Recurrent Energy won an award from Austin Energy for 150 MW of solar capacity in West Texas. The power will be delivered to Austin Energy pursuant to a 20-year PPA. The 150-MW solar facility will be completed in 2016 and will be Texas’ largest single solar power plant.

CPUC Targets Privacy Worries

The California Public Utility Commission’s recent proposed rule aims to protect customer privacy while also facilitating third-party access to smart meter data for energy management, demand response and other customer service applications. But does it go far enough?

Performance standards are a valid and necessary idea to drive conservation, but only if targets are realistic and achievable. So far, success has been determined by program rationality. A uniform, market-based approach would give retailers flexibility to spur innovation.
