Argan subsidiary Gemma Power Systems (GPS) to design and build a 49.9-MW, biomass-fired power plant near Woodville, Texas. GPS has received a limited release to start critical planning and early engineering activities with a full release expected no later than spring 2012, pending environmental approvals. Startup is scheduled for December 2014.

GE plans to build its new solar panel factory in an existing building in Aurora, Colo., with commercial startup in 2013. The factory is expected to cost $300 million to build.

The Golden Triangle Regional Solid Waste Management Authority commissioned a landfill gas-to-electricity project at the Golden Triangle regional landfill in northeastern Mississippi. The facility uses a GE J320 Jenbacher landfill gas engine to generate nearly 1 MW of power. TVA is purchasing the power and renewable energy credits from the 4-County Electric Power Association distribution system under the auspices of the TVA’s Generation Partners program, which supports the production of renewable energy within the utility’s coverage area.
