Commissioner Lauren "Bubba" McDonald of the Georgia Public Service Commission was appointed to a three-year term on the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners' (NARUC) Committee on Electricity.

Peabody Group named Jiri Nemec, previously group executive of Northern Appalachian operations, group executive of Midwest operations. Nemec replaced Mathew A. Haaga, who resigned. James A. Beck Jr., previously group executive of Southern Appalachian operations, was appointed to oversee all of Peabody's Appalachian operations in West Virginia.

David W. Hilt, P.E., was named director of compliance at the North American Electric Reliability Council. Hilt previously was with the Mid-America Interconnected Network Regional Council.

Calpine Corp. promoted Ron Simms to vice president of project services and Ross Cates to director of contracts and administration for the company's construction management operations. Prior to their joining Calpine in November, Simms was vice president of Walsh Power/Industrial and Cates was manager of contracts and construction administration at Walsh Construction.

Bruce H. Braine was named senior vice president of analysis for AEP Energy Services Inc., a subsidiary of American Electric Power. Braine was promoted from his position as vice president of analysis.

AmerenEnergy appointed Baxter Gillette vice president of risk management. Gillette comes to AmerenEnergy from PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he focused on energy risk management.
