Picture Energy: Africa Utility Exchange Kick-off

PUF attended the historic Africa Utility Power Sector Exchange kick-off conference at the Edison Electric Institute on April 6.

A three-year initiative of the Association of Power Utilities of Africa (APUA), the EEI, and the State Department, utility leaders of Africa, the U.S. and other nations will work together to accelerate Africa’s electrifi­cation. Among the utility leaders from Africa in attendance were Abel Tella, director general of APUA; Amadou Traore, CEO of CI-ENERGIES (Cote d’Ivoire); Gosaye Abayneh, CEO of Ethiopian Electric Utility; Joel Nana Kontchou, CEO of ENEO (Cameroon); Ing. William Amuna, CEO of GridCo (Ghana); and Dr. Mouhamadou Makhtar Cisse, CEO, Senelec (Senegal).

Addressing the conference were Mr. Tella, Dr. Emmanuel K. Akyeampong, Mary Burce Warlick of the U.S. State Department, EEI President Tom Kuhn and EEI Vice President for International Programs Lawrence Jones. Following the conference, the utility leaders from Africa, the U.S. and other nations met at length to formulate a roadmap for the Power Sector Exchange.
