PUF's Steve Mitnick: What is your role, and what do you do in a typical day?

Richard Mark: I'm chairman and president of Ameren Illinois. We're an electric and gas distribution company, and we serve 1.2 million electric, and 816,000 natural gas customers across a 43,700 square mile territory in Illinois. 

Every day is different. That's what makes the job so interesting and rewarding. On a normal day I'm giving our leadership team direction and support on the major projects our business is implementing. That could mean getting a briefing on a large infrastructure installation or discussing a regulatory or legislative proposal. 

I'm also a big believer that the leader of the company needs to be highly visible in our communities. At least two or three times a week I attend meetings with non-profit leaders, and we support or speak at business or economic development events. So, my day-to-day includes a mix of working with my team and interacting with civic leaders.
