PUF: Give me the global picture. What do you do and why, for Eversource and its customers?

Roger Kranenburg: There's a massive clean energy transformation happening, and part of my role is to establish a long-term vision, strategy and policies for this transformation to positively benefit our customers and stakeholders.

I look at ways we can enable and facilitate that transformation to be a clean energy catalyst, not only regionally, but globally. In doing that, I look at global trends, different industries, markets, and policies and map that to the region, our customers, business, and stakeholders.

I also oversee the electric transportation and grid-scale battery storage programs and other emerging technology and business model evolution related initiatives. The objective our state's leaders have established is very clear - an eighty percent reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

There are global geopolitics dominating the battery space. How that translates into energy is that it helps this transition to electric vehicles through the reduction in cost and improvement in performance of batteries. As transportation shifts from individual ownership to business-supplied services, it benefits electric vehicles because the more you travel in that vehicle the more savings and emission reductions you get. You've got that dynamic playing into the energy space.
