Prepare, Protect, Respond
Bill Spence is the CEO of PPL Corporation.
PUF: As an industry leader on reliability and resilience, what motivated you to focus on this area and cybersecurity specifically among your many important responsibilities?
Bill Spence: First it starts with the recognition of how vital electricity is in our everyday lives. Clearly, our customers count on us each day to ensure that power is available continuously, twenty-four/seven. At the same time, we recognize we have a responsibility to our shareowners to safeguard PPL’s assets, prevent financial harm, and protect the company’s reputation.
Also, as technology continues to play an even bigger role in our lives and in our businesses, it’s imperative that we have a strong cyber defense. That demands that leaders across our sector are focused and engaged on cybersecurity matters, which we are, and it requires the attention of our employees at all levels of the organization.
As you can imagine, like other leaders in our industry, I’ve come to understand and appreciate the magnitude of the persistent and evolving security threats that companies like PPL face. Protecting against these threats requires a constant vigilance on our part.
