The PUF team was warmly welcomed by those energy stalwarts charged with drafting and implementing Governor Phil Murphy's Energy Master Plan at the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities. 

It's serious work, but it's fun too, as you will hear Staff attest. And the New Jersey BPU is big, with some two hundred and twenty-five Staff, because in 2003 it established the Office of Clean Energy to help administer its programs. Talk about forward thinking. 

PUF: Talk about your backgrounds and how you each ended up at the Board.

Cynthia Holland: I have been working in public utility law and regulation for over a decade. I got my start working in this field while I was in law school. One of the things that motivated me to engage in law, but then in particular energy and regulatory law, was an interview I once heard where Tom Hanks said that being a lawyer means you're doing homework for the rest of your life.

I thought, I'm pretty decent at homework, I like a challenge, I like developing creative solutions, and I thought this was a novel area. That's proven to be true because we're constantly evolving in terms of law and policy.
