It is impressive how committed the utilities industry is, to increasing the diversity of its workforce. For several reasons including that a diverse workforce leads to a more innovative and customer-centric company. But we know that increasing workforce diversity takes hard work in several dimensions. One is seeking and then attracting the brightest and most diligent young people of different backgrounds just starting out.
In this trying time when the challenges of people of color in our society is at the forefront of public discussion, Public Utilities Fortnightly thought it would be great to talk with young African Americans looking to start their careers and are considering the utilities industry. First at bat is this recent Princeton University grad, an impressive young man. Let's see what he's looking for, possibly in the service of communities via an electric, natural gas or water utility.
PUF's Steve Mitnick: What is your background?
A.J. Sibley: I'm from Virginia. After high school, I took a gap year before college and studied in China for about nine months, learning the language and culture, while living with a host family.
