Jeff Brown is Energy Efficiency & Consumer Programs Manager for the Public Service Company of Oklahoma, an AEP Company.
In late January, AESP held its 31st annual conference, Charging Forward in 2021.
This panel discussed emerging natural gas demand response programs, looking at research in and the status of gas demand response (DR), utility justification and implementation, customer experience, and evaluation, measurement, and validation. Some of the questions asked included what are the utility drivers for launching gas DR programs? What are lessons learned in the design, recruitment, and events of DR programs? Excerpted here are some of those conversations.
Energy Efficiency & Consumer Programs Manager, Public Service Company of Oklahoma, an AEP Company, Jeff Brown: I'm particularly interested with what the industry is seeing, what's going on, and what's driving many utilities to get into this segment.
Principal, The Brattle Group, Sanem Sergici: This is a very interesting time for the entire energy industry, but more so for the gas business. There is a big focus on decarbonization, and that brings the focus on electrification.
When the electrification takes hold, especially buildings electrification, that essentially means the gas business throughput would go down and necessarily the investments would need to be scaled back.
