The APPA conference included a sizzling general session online that began with the presentation of utility services awards. That included honoring the recipients of the 2021 E.F. Scattergood System Achievement Award, the Sue Kelly Community Service Award, and the DEED Energy Innovator Awards. Jolene Thompson, CEO, American Municipal Power, and Chair, American Public Power Association, hosted the general session and gave remarks, followed by a CEO perspective. Listen in to these memorable moments.

Chair, American Public Power Association, and CEO, American Municipal Power, Jolene Thompson: During the in-person conference a few weeks ago, I was honored to install long-time friend and colleague Colin Hansen as the new Chair of the APPA board. As part of that process, I had the opportunity to reflect on my time in public power in my year serving as Chair. 

I appreciate the opportunity to share some of those thoughts in this virtual forum. When I began my career in public power in the late 1980s in the member services department at American Municipal Power, I knew that I had found my home.
