Community power, and the provision of it, is increasingly important as the energy and utilities industry focuses on ESG. Making sure no one is left behind in the clean energy transformation almost has become a mantra.

Enter Michelle Moore, CEO of a non-profit, Groundswell, out doing the hard work of making sure that mantra not only rings true but becomes true. What Groundswell does requires attention and is a model for other such community programs.

On top of that, this CEO made PUF staff smile, for the joy she takes in her hard work of bringing power to the community, resonates. When you learn about her work, and feel the joy, you will smile too.

PUF's Steve Mitnick: What's the mission of Groundswell? Why is it an important organization?

Michelle Moore: Groundswell's mission is building community power, and we mean that in every sense of the word. We work with local neighborhoods, community-based organizations, and churches and communities of faith to build solar and other clean energy projects that help reduce energy burdens for people in the neighborhood and help to support local jobs. We also partner with local and primarily Black-owned businesses to do it.
