The Department of Defense is busy in the energy and environment space and is looking to partner with utilities to move forward on many of its projects. Resiliency, cybersecurity, and decarbonization are a few of the issues in focus at our military services.

To find out more, PUF turned to the Pentagon, to an expert in all matters military, as well as a West Point graduate. Richard Kidd, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Environment and Energy Resilience, is in charge of budgetary, policy, and management oversight of programs related to climate change, compliance with environmental laws, prevention of pollution, management of natural and cultural resources, and cleanup of contaminated sites, as well as energy resilience, risk, and performance.

Kidd points out the portfolio is garnering much attention lately, and the division is growing, with the addition of staff. Army, Navy, and Air Force also all hold a person in the position of deputy assistant secretary for energy and environment, representative of the importance of these issues. Listen in.
