The United States Energy Association's Annual State of the Energy Industry Forum brought together the heads of twenty energy industry associations in January. Herein are excerpts from the presentation by American Gas Association CEO Karen Harbert.

Let's put some figures to those tenets. We serve a hundred and eighty-seven million Americans in all fifty states. That's more people than voted in the last presidential election. We have a very large community, a lot of customers, and an obligation to serve those safely, affordably, reliably, every day 24/7/365.

And we're growing. Last year, we added seven hundred seventy-five thousand new customers. We're incredibly popular. In fact, we did a poll two weeks ago, and our poll numbers are better than any politician in this town.

We enjoy a seventy-six percent approval rating. For my friends down the street in the Capitol, we're more popular.

We serve five and a half million businesses every day that rely on our products. And that, if President Biden is successful in re-onshoring a lot of new manufacturing, is going to depend on the availability of abundant natural gas and keeping it affordable here at home.

You're looking at industries moving from Europe to here, and it's not because of the war in Ukraine. They've been moving here for a decade. Why? Because we are such an abundant and affordable resource for them.
