The Alliance for Transportation Electrification has seen its importance grow as attention has turned to electric vehicles. In June, the Alliance released a White Paper on the utility role in transportation electrification.

It is a worthy read and examines why EV charging infrastructure is developing too slowly, which creates market gaps and a hesitance by potential consumers to purchase EVs. There is a robust utility role waiting in order to take on the many challenges of electrification to reach EV goals.

Public Utilities Fortnightly went to the expert on these issues, the Alliance for Transportation Electrification Executive Director Phil Jones, to explain the role of the regulated utility in all matters EV and more. Listen in.

 

PUF's Steve Mitnick: The executive summary says, "This paper discusses in detail the arguments made by some third-party developers, and some consumer advocates against either make ready or ownership in operation investment, and why the Alliance believes these arguments fail to win the day." This report comprehensively addresses that. Give an outline.

Phil Jones: The issues related to transportation electrification are profound and far-reaching. These are massive, long-term changes in two of our most critical infrastructures.
