As the state’s primary energy policy and planning agency, the California Energy Commission plays a critical role in creating the state’s energy system of the future. The Energy Commission has a key responsibility in implementing and crafting policies and programs to create a low-carbon economy.

Five Commissioners work in the public interest at the Commission, planning for the energy future of the world’s fifth largest economy. PUF Executive Editor Steve Mitnick spoke about that and much more with long-serving Commissioner, Andrew McAllister, appointed in 2012.

Commissioner McAllister explained what goes on in the equivalent of what is more commonly known as a State Energy Office. He also chairs the Western Interstate Energy Board and serves on the boards of the National Association of State Energy Officials and the Smart Electric Power Alliance. Listen in and learn.

 

PUF’s Steve Mitnick: What is your role at the California Energy Commission and what do you do on a typical day?

Commissioner Andrew McAllister: The California Energy Commission is our state’s policy and planning agency, and State Energy Office. We are the largest State Energy Office in the country by a fair bit, the next biggest one being NYSERDA, I believe.
