NARUC Events
Chris Brown is Chair of the Mississippi Public Service Commission and President of the Southeastern Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners at NARUC.
Paul Kjellander is PUF Senior Advisor, former NARUC and Idaho Commission President.
NARUC holds three well-attended conferences each year and has five regional associations, which also hold annual meetings, usually in May and June. In 2026, the first regional meetings, held in May, are by the New England Conference of Public Utilities Commissioners (NECPUC), the Southeastern Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (SEARUC), and the Western Conference of Public Service Commissioners (WCPSC).
Coming later in the summer will be annual meetings held by the Mid-America Regulatory Conference (MARC), and the Mid-Atlantic Conference of Regulatory Utilities Commissions (MACRUC). Each regional association elects its own officers, maintains independent bylaws, hosts annual meetings/education conferences, and convenes during NARUC meetings.
Public Utilities Fortnightly’s Senior Advisor Paul Kjellander, former Idaho Commission and NARUC President, talked with leaders at NECPUC, SEARUC, and the Western Conference on issues of importance to those regions.
Those leaders are NECPUC President and Maine Chair Phil Bartlett, SEARUC President and Mississippi Chair Chris Brown, and WCPSC President and New Mexico Commissioner Patrick O’Connell. Look for more on the NARUC regional association meetings in the June issue of PUF.
PUF’s Paul Kjellander: As you wrap up your term as SEARUC president, what stands out as defining challenges for regulators across your region?
