The North American Electric Reliability Corporation, better known as NERC, held its Trades Meeting and Executive Committee Meeting in mid-October in Washington, D.C. NERC’s mission is to assure the effective and efficient reduction of risks to the reliability and security of the grid. PUF Executive Editor Steve Mitnick discussed achieving that with NERC CEO Jim Robb, Chief Engineer Mark Lauby, General Counsel Sonia Rocha, Senior Vice President of Strategy and External Engagement Camilo Serna, and Senior Vice President of Regulatory Oversight Howard Gugel.

PUF’s Steve Mitnick: What do you do on a typical day?

Camilo Serna: On a typical day, it’s good when I’m talking to stakeholders and understanding how they’re interacting with us at NERC and understand our mission of being able to ensure reliable and secure operations of the grid. It’s understanding how they are reacting to some of our initiatives, giving us feedback, or for us to give them ideas or information about what we’re trying to do.

A typical day could include speaking at a conference, being at a forum, or having a meeting with a set of stakeholders to get their input.
