New Opportunities: The Nuclear Regulatory Commission announced the selection of Darren B. Ash as CIO and deputy executive director for information services. Prior to his selection, Ash worked as DOT’s associate CIO for IT investment management.

The Westar Energy Inc. board of directors announced that William Moore will succeed CEO James Haines. Moore also will become a member of the board. He currently is president and COO. Haines announced his retirement as CEO effective June 30, 2007.

Energen Corp. shareholders re-elected five members to the diversified energy company’s board of directors. Four members of the board were re-elected for three-year terms: Steven D. Ban, director of the Technology Transfer Division of Argonne National Laboratory; Julian W. Banton, retired president and director of SouthTrust Corp.; T. Michael Goodrich, chairman and CEO of BE&K; and William Michael Warren Jr., chairman and CEO of Energen. Elected for a one-year term was James T. McManus II, president and COO of Energen.

The Electric Power Supply Association (EPSA) announced the addition of Conrad Lass to EPSA’s senior staff as vice president of legislative affairs. Lass comes to EPSA from Rio Tinto, where he served as director of government affairs in its Washington, D.C., office.

The board of directors of Dominion elected President and CEO Thomas F. Farrell II as chairman of the board, effective immediately. Farrell succeeds retiring board chairman Thos. E. Capps. Farrell became CEO on Jan. 1, 2006. Prior to that, he served in several senior management positions since joining the company in 1995.

The board of directors of Northwest Natural Gas Co., doing business as NW Natural, announced the appointment of Gregg S. Kantor as president and COO effective May 1, 2007. Kantor has served as NW Natural’s executive vice president since late 2006.

Nicor Inc. announced the promotion of Gerry O’Connor to senior vice president of finance, and treasurer. O’Connor joined Nicor in 2004 as vice president, administration and finance, of Nicor Inc. and Nicor Gas. In 2006, he was promoted to vice president finance, and treasurer.

Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp., a subsidiary of CH Energy Group appointed Paul E. Haering assistant vice president of engineering and environmental services. Haering joined Central Hudson as a junior engineer in substation design in 1986 and was recognized as the firm’s 2006 manager of the year.

TXU Corp. named Tom Baker vice chairman of TXU Corp. and Robert S. Shapard chairman and CEO of Oncor, formerly named TXU Electric Delivery. Baker has a 36-year track record at TXU, most recently serving as chairman and CEO of TXU Electric Delivery.

Spectra Energy Corp. appointed Pamela L. Carter, corporate vice president with Cummins Inc., to the company’s board of directors.


Retired: Ronald R. Peterson, vice president of Avista Corp. and vice president of energy resources and optimization for Avista Utilities, will retire from the corporation effective Aug. 1, 2007. Dennis Vermillion, president and COO for Avista Energy, has been named vice president of energy resources and optimization for Avista Utilities.

TVA Chief Nuclear Officer and Executive Vice President Karl Singer plans to retire. TVA appointed William R. (Bill) Campbell as chief nuclear officer effective May 14. Campbell currently serves as the COO for Entergy Nuclear’s South Region.
