Welcome to this month's EEI International Programs Column. For this May issue, we bring you key excerpts from my interview with President and CEO of Manitoba Hydro, Jay Grewal. We discussed Manitoba Hydro's business model, Grewal's leadership style, creating equitable partnerships, and the future of transmission. This interview was adapted from EEI's Electric Perspectives: Global Circuit podcast. You will find the full interview here: bit.ly/GlobalCircuit-51

Lawrence Jones: Jay, thank you for doing this interview with me. Can you give us a bit about the company and how it started?

Jay Grewal: First, I want to explain that Manitoba Hydro is a crown corporation. It's a business that is owned by the crown, by the provincial government here in Manitoba. We are the only electricity and natural gas supplier. We own and operate generation, transmission, and distribution on the electricity side, and we transmit and distribute natural gas.

Lawrence Jones: I believe you have a unique approach to leadership. How do you lead?

Jay Grewal: I want to start with the fact that I haven't had a traditional career. This is my third utility, but I've spent my career in three key areas. Financial banking, large infrastructure, and the mining industry, and now utilities.
