GE Wins Nearly $1 Billion Contract To Build SEC’s 1390 MW Waad Al Shamal Combined Cycle Power Plant

GE was awarded an EPC contract valued at nearly $1 billion for gas turbine services for the Waad Al Shamal combined cycle power plant of Saudi Electricity Company (SEC). Scheduled for completion in 48 months, the plant will support the phosphate mining operations in the locality. GE will deliver the turnkey power plant, supplying four advanced GE 7F.05 heavy-duty gas turbines and a GE steam turbine. The 1,390-MW combined cycle plant will be able to provide the equivalent power needed to supply more than 500,000 Saudi homes.

Siemens to Supply Compression Solution for LNG Project

Siemens was awarded a contract to supply the initial ten compressor trains for a LNG project for Magnolia LNG, a wholly-owned subsidiary company of Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (LNGL). Siemens' scope of supply comprises a total of eight refrigeration compressors and two feed gas booster compressors for the initial two LNG trains.

Gemma Power Systems to build NTE Projects in Ohio and North Carolina

Gemma Power Systems (GPS) received interim notice to proceed (INTP) on activities under an EPC contract with NTE Ohio, to construct the Middleton Energy Center, a 475-MW natural gas-fired power plant in Middletown, OH. The project features a Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Americas (MHPSA) M501GAC combustion turbine generator, a Vogt Power International supplementary-fired heat recovery steam generator and a Toshiba America Energy Systems steam turbine generator.

Exelon Generation Breaks Ground On 1,000 MW Natural Gas Power Generating Unit

Senior executives from Exelon Generation, Alstom, General Electric and Zachry officially broke ground on the construction of a new low-carbon, combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) at Exelon's Colorado Bend Generating Station in Wharton. The new CCGT will provide an additional 1,000 MW to the existing 498-MW natural gas power plant. The new unit at Colorado Bend is one of two new CCGTs the company is developing in Texas.

Panda Power Funds to Jointly Develop 1,000 MW Pennsylvania Power Project

Panda Power Funds entered into a joint venture with Sunbury Generation LP to develop, finance, construct and operate a 1,000-MW natural gas-fueled, combined-cycle power project near Shamokin Dam in Snyder County, Pennsylvania. The 30 acre Panda Hummel Station” power facility will occupy part of the 192 acre Keystone Opportunity Expansion Zone at the site of the recently retired Sunbury coal-fired power plant. The plant is expected to enter commercial operation in the second half of 2017.

Siemens Delivers Three F-Class Gas Turbines to Peru

Siemens received an order for three SGT6-5000F gas turbines from Peru. The turbines will be used in the project Nodo Energético del Sur - Planta N° 2 Región Moquegua consisting of three simple cycle power plants. The customer is the power utility EnerSur, the contractor being Técnicas Reunidas and JJC. The commercial operation date is scheduled for March 2017. The three new plants will be installed in Ilo, which is a seaport in the Moquegua region, the southern part of Peru.

GE to Replace TVA’s Coal Units with Cleaner, High-Efficiency H-Class Gas Turbines

GE received an order from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to supply two high-efficiency 7HA.02 gas turbine generators for the new combined-cycle Allen plant. The new plant will replace three coal-fired units that are being retired as TVA works toward a December 2018 deadline from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to reduce coal emissions. The TVA Allen plant will have the capacity to generate 1,000 MW of power in combined-cycle mode, the equivalent power that would be needed to supply 1 million U.S. homes.

Alstom to Build and Upgrade Eleven Electrical Substations in Germany

Alstom Grid was awarded eleven turnkey projects worth over $50 million by Netze BW to modernize their electrical network in Germany. The projects include the construction and upgrade of four gas-insulated substations (GIS) in Stuttgart city center and seven turnkey air-insulated substations (AIS) in rural areas, scheduled for completion by 2017. Alstom will supply the necessary electrical equipment to build and extend the gas-insulated and air-insulated substations. The turnkey projects include the related civil works.

NTE Carolinas Signs Long-Term Power Purchase Agreement with Concord, N.C.

NTE Carolinas entered into a long-term PPA with the City of Concord, North Carolina. Under the terms of the agreement, NTE's Kings Mountain Energy Center will provide Concord with electric generation services for an initial 20-year term. In July 2014, NTE secured an equity investment for its three natural gas-fired power plants, including the Kings Mountain Energy Center, from Capital Dynamics and Wattage Finance. Construction of the facility is anticipated to begin in the second-quarter 2015, and commercial operation is scheduled to begin in the first-quarter 2018.
