ABB Microgrid Control Technology Enables Wind Energy to Remote Island

ABB delivered and commissioned a microgrid control solution that enables the island of Faial in the Atlantic Ocean to add more wind energy to its power mix without destabilizing the network. The island of 15,000 inhabitants has an electricity network which operates as a self-contained microgrid, powered by six oil-fired generators that produce up to 17 MW of electric power.

SunEdison Introduces New York City's Largest Solar Energy Project

SunEdison introduced a renewable energy project in partnership with New York City, which is scheduled to break ground in the second half of 2015. The project will consist of two PV systems totaling up to 10 MW in size, and will utilize between 30,000 and 35,000 high efficiency solar panels installed across 47 acres leased to SunEdison at Freshkills Park, a former landfill that closed in 2001. When reopened, the converted 2,200 acre park will be the largest in the city and help to meet the PlaNYC goal of a 30-percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.

Dominion Virginia Power Installs Virginia’s Largest Rooftop Solar Project

Dominion Virginia Power installed more than 2,000 solar panels on the rooftop of Canon Virginia Inc.'s (CVI) Industrial Resource Technologies (IRT) facility in Gloucester, making it the largest roof solar system in Virginia. When operational, the panels at the Gloucester facility will generate more than 500 kW of electricity and will flow to the electric grid for use by Dominion Virginia Power customers. Construction started in December and the panels are expected to be fully installed and operational in early 2014.

Illinois Power Holdings Completes Acquisition of Ameren Energy Resources

Illinois Power Holdings (IPH) completed its acquisition of New Ameren Energy Resources (AER), an Ameren subsidiary. The transaction includes AER and its subsidiaries Ameren Energy Generating Company (Genco), New AERG (AERG), and Ameren Energy Marketing Company (AEM). The AEM retail and marketing businesses, doing business as Homefield Energy, and the following plants are included in the transaction: Duck Creek, Coffeen, E.D. Edwards, Newton, and Joppa.

IKEA Opens Tenth EV Charging Stations in Frisco, TX in Partnership with Car Charging Group

IKEA officially plugged-in three Blink EV charging stations at its Dallas-area store as part of its partnership with Car Charging Group, the new owner of the Blink Network and Blink charging stations. This initiative represents the tenth such project for IKEA in the United States, with installation underway at seven other locations. In total, completion of the units currently planned will bring the total number of Blink charging stations available at IKEA locations to 55.

Wood Group GTS Awarded Six-Year Frame 7EA Term Maintenance Agreement

Wood Group GTS was awarded a six-year contract to provide maintenance services for a GE Frame 7EA gas turbine at a manufacturing facility in Texas. Wood Group GTS' contract features all major maintenance services, including parts, repairs, field services, and the installation of monitoring and diagnostics technology to provide predictive performance management of the gas turbine. The customer's accelerated process required that a solution be in place prior to the next scheduled combustion inspection in spring 2014.

Cheniere Enters into Lump Sum Turnkey Contracts with Bechtel for Corpus Christi Liquefaction Project

Williams Partners Receives FERC Approval for Transco Pipeline Expansion

Williams Partners received Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approval to expand Transco, the nation’s largest natural gas pipeline system, to provide service to a new, gas-fired, power-generation plant in Virginia. The approximately $300 million Transco Virginia Southside Expansion is designed to provide 270,000 dekatherms per day (dth/d) of incremental transportation capacity in Virginia and North Carolina by September 2015.

Columbia Gas Transmission Receives FERC Approval for Line MB Extension

Federal regulators approved construction of Columbia Gas Transmission’s (Columbia) line MB extension natural gas system modernization project in Baltimore County and Harford County, Maryland. The certificate of public convenience and necessity, issued by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, instructs Columbia to move forward with the 21.3-mile pipeline and begin construction in 2014.
