Westinghouse Develops New Inspection Technique for Sweden’s Oskarshamn Unit 3 Nuclear Power Plant

Westinghouse Electric Company with subsidiary WesDyne Sweden AB was selected by OKG AB to develop and qualify techniques and equipment to inspect the core shroud support at OKG AB's Oskarshamn unit 3 Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Sweden. The contract scope includes developing and qualifying ultrasonic and eddy current techniques for 70 millimeter thick Inconel 182 welds, as well as two new manipulators to inspect approximately 35 meters in five different weld segments.

Westinghouse Extends Capacity of Sweden’s Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Company

Westinghouse Electric signed a contract with Svensk Kärnbränslehantering AB (SKB), the Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Company to increase the capacity of the cooling system, also known as the cooling chain, at the Central Interim Storage Facility for Spent Nuclear Fuel (Clab) located outside Oskarshamn, on Sweden's east coast.

Electrolux Buys GE’s Appliance Business for $3.3 Billion

Sweden's Electrolux AB paid $3.3 billion in cash for General Electric's appliances business. GE's century-old household appliance business could help the Swedish company expand beyond its core European market, where growth has trailed that in North America. The deal will be financed by a bridge facility, and the company plans a rights issue to raise about 25 percent of the price after the deal's expected closing next year.

Ventyx Joins Swedish Utility to Create One of the World’s Smartest Electricity Networks

Ventyx, an ABB company, joined an initiative to create one of the world's smartest electricity networks, part of a development project entitled Smart Grid Gotland. As part of the project, Ventyx will deploy a comprehensive distribution system optimization solution encompassing network control, demand response management, demand forecasting and business analytics to support the project, enabling large quantities of wind and other renewable and distributed energy sources to be integrated into the grid.

Echelon selected for Swedish smart grid

Echelon was selected to provide smart grid systems for the Smart Grid Gotland project, a large-scale, technology demonstration on the island of Gotland, Sweden. The project is sponsored by a joint venture between Vattenfall, Gotland Energy, ABB, Swedish National Grid, Schneider Electric, and the Royal Institute of Technology, and and is partly financed by the Swedish Energy Agency. Echelon will provide its edge control node, its control operating system (COS) -based application platform, and 3,000 advanced grid sensors, which also provide smart metering functionality.
