GE completed the acquisition of Alstom's power and grid businesses. The completion of the transaction follows the regulatory approval of the deal in over 20 countries and regions including the EU, U.S., China, India, Japan and Brazil. It is GE's largest-ever industrial acquisition. GE reached an agreement with Alstom in 2014 to purchase Alstom's power and grid businesses for $12.35 billion.
Alstom was awarded substation automation contracts for three of DONG Energy’s offshore wind farms. The systems will be fitted at the Race Bank project off the Norfolk Coast, the Walney Extension in the Irish Sea and at the Burbo Bank Extension in Liverpool Bay. All three projects are currently at various stages of development. All projects will feature Alstom Grid’s DS Agile, the company’s next generation digital control system for smart substations.
Senior executives from Exelon Generation, Alstom, General Electric and Zachry officially broke ground on the construction of a new low-carbon, combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) at Exelon's Colorado Bend Generating Station in Wharton. The new CCGT will provide an additional 1,000 MW to the existing 498-MW natural gas power plant. The new unit at Colorado Bend is one of two new CCGTs the company is developing in Texas.
Alstom was selected by Transmisión Eléctrica del Norte (TEN), a subsidiary of E-CL an electric company based in Chile and part of the Engie Group, to supply four turnkey substations for Chile's first interconnection system, the Mejillones - Cardones Transmission line. The contract, worth approximately $278 million, includes the installation of three new 500-kV substations in Chacayita, Los Changos and Cumbres, as well as the expansion of the Nueva Cardones substation.

Alstom, and Singapore's Nanyang Technological University (NTU), collaborated to design, develop and deploy MicroGrid Power Mix Management (MPMM) solution in the context of the Renewable Energy Integration Demonstrator - Singapore (REIDS) initiative. The REIDS initiative, a first in the region will encompass the construction of a microgrid to manage and integrate electricity generated from multiple sources including solar, wind, tidal, diesel, as well as energy storage and power-to-gas solutions.
Alstom was awarded the $1.2 million Microgrid Research Development and System Design (RD&D) project by the US Energy Department (DoE). Alstom is one of seven organizations to receive microgrid funding ($8 million total) from the DOE. The objective of this funding is to perform research, development and testing of advanced microgrid controllers capable of managing and controlling microgrid systems to improve viability, reliability and resiliency of the electric distribution grid.
